What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Turn an annual volume target into a quarterly sales budget with seasonality and a mid-year price rise.
- Plan how many bottles to produce and how much steel to buy, using target inventory levels.
- Budget selling and admin costs, split into variable and fixed, and find the cash part.
- Pull the sales, cost and expense budgets together into a budgeted P&L down to net income.
- Turn credit sales into cash receipts, schedule payments and work out how much to borrow to stay above minimum cash.
- Roll a weekly cash forecast for one quarter, find the low point and size the credit line you need.
- Build a variance report with $ and % variances, favourable/unfavourable flags, and a flexed-budget check.
- Build a next-four-quarter forecast that switches between scenarios with one selector cell.
About this course
A budget is only useful if it connects sales, costs and cash in one consistent model. That is what you build here. You start with a sales budget from volume, price and seasonality, then plan production and materials purchases and split operating expenses into fixed and variable. These feed a budgeted profit and loss statement. The cash budget adds collection lags, a minimum cash balance and borrowing, and a 13-week forecast shows the short-term cash position week by week. You then compare budget with actual results in a variance analysis and finish with a rolling forecast across base, best and worst scenarios. For finance analysts, controllers, small business owners and FP&A beginners.
