What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Calculate the annual dividend, forward yield, yield on cost and annual income of a five-stock income portfolio.
- Check how well Keystone Industrials' 2026 dividend is covered by earnings and by free cash flow.
- Measure five years of dividend growth and screen six stocks with a Chowder-style yield + growth rule.
- Model ten years of reinvested Westbrook Pharma dividends and compare the income with taking the cash.
- Measure the income and yield of a seven-stock portfolio and the extra capital an income goal needs.
- Screen seven dividend stocks against payout and balance-sheet rules and rate each one SAFE, WATCH or RISK.
- Compare a high-yield stock and a fast dividend grower on price return, total return and the yield + growth shortcut.
- Check which Q4 2026 dividends you are entitled to, what arrives after withholding tax, and whether a dividend-capture trade pays off.
About this course
Turn a list of dividend payers into numbers you can compare and question. You calculate current yield and yield on cost, then check payout ratio and dividend cover against both earnings and free cash flow. A compound growth rate over several years feeds a simple yield-plus-growth screen, and a reinvestment table shows how dividends buy more shares over time. For a small income portfolio you work out the weighted yield and expected annual income, build a pass-or-fail safety screen from several conditions, and compare total return with price-only return. The last lab covers ex-dividend dates and the effect of withholding tax on net income. Aimed at private investors and finance students; it teaches calculations, not stock picks or investment or tax advice.
