What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Solve a linear market for its equilibrium, measure the shortage under a price ceiling and find who pays a per-unit tax.
- Measure how strongly three products react to a price change and whether the change raised revenue.
- Build marginal and average cost from a cost table and find the output where the bakery earns the most.
- Find the price a patent holder would charge, compare it with the competitive outcome and measure the loss to society.
- Turn a price index into inflation rates and find out whether a 29% pay rise was really a rise.
- Turn nominal rates into real rates and see how inflation changes the value of savings and the cost of a loan.
- Add up GDP from spending, split nominal growth into real growth and inflation, and check growth per person.
- Measure how a stronger euro squeezes an importer's margin, reprice the product and check the euro against purchasing power parity.
About this course
Pricing, costs and inflation decisions all rest on a handful of economic ideas, and this course applies each one to a business case. You find market equilibrium and test a price ceiling and a tax, measure price elasticity with the midpoint method and see what it does to revenue, then read cost curves to find the output where marginal cost equals marginal revenue. A demand table compares monopoly with competition. Using a consumer price index you convert nominal values to real ones, connect interest rates and inflation with the Fisher equation, and separate nominal from real GDP with the deflator. The last lab shows how exchange-rate moves and purchasing power affect your margin. For business students, founders and managers without an economics background.
