Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

• Turn Mara and Daniel's tape-measure notes into floor areas, gross wall areas, the area lost to doors and windows and the net wall area that will actually be painted.
• Work out how many litres of paint the walls and ceilings need, round up to whole cans and find the cheapest mix of large and small cans.
• Add the right waste allowance for each material, convert square metres into whole packs, price each room and see why ordering a material for several rooms at once saves a pack.
• Normalise seven painting quotes to a price per m², find the median as a fair benchmark, measure how far each quote deviates and highlight the outliers.
• Compare six jobs done yourself with the professional price, put a value on your own hours, calculate the break-even hourly rate and total the saving of a smart DIY plan.
• Chain the remaining renovation tasks to their predecessors with WORKDAY, skip weekends and two public holidays, find the handover date and draw the plan as Gantt bars.
• Track the renovation budget by category, separate signed commitments from payments, find the overruns that net totals hide and see how much of the contingency is left.
• Turn the energy audit into yearly savings, compute the simple payback of five upgrades, check the windows with a net present value and chart the payback years.
