What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Collect the three cost blocks of one coach: the fixed cost per year, the variable cost per kilometre from fuel, tyres and maintenance, and the full cost of a driver hour.
  • Spread the fixed costs over the planned hours, cost a typical day trip from a km rate and an hour rate, express it as an all-in rate per km and price a short job with a minimum charge.
  • Add the empty legs to each job, measure the empty share per job and for the fleet, and cost the positioning kilometres of a job far from the depot.
  • Compute duty hours from start and end times, the breaks a fictional rule requires, a status per trip with IF and AND, and how many trips need a second driver.
  • Cost three job types including driver nights, turn the cost into a rounded quoted price with a markup, show the price per seat at different group sizes and find the smallest group that reaches a target seat price.
  • Find the smallest vehicle that seats each group with MINIFS, return its type and cost rates with XLOOKUP, cost each job with the right vehicle and spot the jobs that need two vehicles.
  • Count jobs per day, find how many coaches are on the road at the same moment with COUNTIFS on times, cost the partner coaches needed on the peak day and measure the fleet's utilisation.
  • Compute the season profit and utilisation of each vehicle, the monthly profit and season margin, and chart revenue against cost by month for the owner's season review.

About this course

Quote a group trip too low and the coach runs at a loss; too high and the job goes elsewhere. This course gives you a costing method that holds up. You gather fixed costs per vehicle, costs per kilometre and driver pay per hour, then turn them into rates and a minimum charge. Empty positioning runs are measured against live kilometres, and duty, driving and break times are checked against a fictional rule set. With that base you quote day trips, airport transfers and multi-day tours, including a price per seat. MINIFS and XLOOKUP pick the cheapest suitable vehicle, a booking grid reveals overlaps and peak days, and a vehicle profit and loss closes the season. For coach operators, dispatchers and transport students.
