Coordinate Geometry with Spreadsheets: Distance, Slopes, Lines, Circles & Polygons
Learn coordinate geometry by computing it on site plans, floor plans, maps and designs: distance and midpoint, slopes and ATAN2 directions, line equations and intersections, parallel and perpendicular checks, point-to-line distance, circles, shoelace areas with SUMPRODUCT and scale-rotate-translate transformations in 8 hands-on labs.

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Measure six planned paths on a park site plan from their end-point coordinates, find each path's midpoint for a lamp post and total the paving length.
- Calculate the slope, the direction angle and the pitch of six lines on a facade drawing and check the entrance ramp against a 1:12 limit.
- Turn two roads given by surveyed points into y = mx + b, use the point-slope form to find a point on a road and calculate where the two roads cross.
- Test five walls of a rotated floor plan against the front wall: slope product, the angle between the lines and a verdict with a tolerance, plus the slope a perpendicular wall needs.
- Write a planned road as ax + by + c = 0, measure the perpendicular distance of seven buildings to it, find which side each one is on and count those inside the noise buffer.
- Convert a sprinkler's centre and radius into the general circle equation, test seven plants for inside / on edge / outside, and read centre and radius back from a CAD equation.
- Calculate the area of an irregular building plot from its corner coordinates with the shoelace formula, once row by row and once with SUMPRODUCT, and find the plot's centroid.
- Scale an L-shaped logo outline ×1.5, rotate it 30° about the origin, move it to its spot on a poster and plot the original and the placed outline in one scatter chart.
About this course
Coordinate geometry is everywhere in maps, floor plans and graphics. This course applies it to practical plans. You measure distance and midpoints on a park site plan and find slope and angle for ramps and roofs. You write line equations to locate the intersection of two roads, check walls for being parallel or perpendicular on a floor plan and calculate the distance from buildings to a planned road. Circle equations test sprinkler coverage on a garden. The shoelace formula gives the area of any polygon along with its centroid, and the final lab scales, rotates and translates a logo with a before-and-after chart. Ideal for secondary and college students, teachers and anyone working with plans.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
