Candle Making Math: Container Volumes, Wax Weights, Fragrance & Dye Loads by Percentage, Batch Sizes, Cost per Candle and Pricing
Measure and cost every candle you pour. You will compute container volumes, convert them to wax weights with a fictional density, add fragrance and dye as percentages of wax weight, scale batches to your melting pot, track yields and leftovers, cost each candle and set prices for markets and shops, with every cell checked as you go.

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Calculate how many millilitres of wax round and square containers hold up to their fill line, total the volume for a market order and find the pooled average fill per container.
- Look up each wax's fictional density, turn fill volumes into grams of wax per candle and per row, and total the wax for the order in kilograms.
- Turn a chosen fragrance load into grams, add it to the wax for the pour weight, compare the load with the fictional label's maximum and split a target pour weight back into wax and fragrance.
- Look up drops of liquid dye per kg from a fictional label, scale them to each batch, weigh a fictional additive as a share of the wax and total the dye chips for a whole production day.
- Total the pour weight of a production plan, find how many pots it takes with ROUNDUP, split the work into even pours and work out the wax left over after buying whole bags.
- Read a wick code and the wicks per candle from a fictional supplier chart by container diameter, count the wicks for a row and cost the small parts that go into each candle.
- Cost each candle from wax and fragrance prices per kg plus the container, parts and packaging, add your minutes at an hourly rate, find the labour share and test a rise in the wax price.
- Set retail prices with a multiplier and CEILING, derive wholesale prices for shops, measure the wholesale margin per size and chart last season's product mix.
About this course
Good candles depend on consistent ratios, and profitable ones depend on knowing what each pour costs. This course covers both. You calculate container volumes for cylinders and boxes up to the fill line, then convert millilitres to grams of wax with a fictional label density. Fragrance is added as a percentage of wax weight, dye and additives scale with the batch, and you fit pours to your melting-pot capacity while tracking leftover wax. Wicks and parts come from a fictional supplier chart. Then you add up wax, fragrance, container, packaging and your minutes into a cost per candle and set retail and wholesale prices by size. Every lab checks your cells. For hobby makers and small candle brands.
