What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Convert eight foreign orders at the mid-rate with XLOOKUP, take off the conversion spread and the payout FX fee, and find the total and the effective cost of selling in other currencies.
  • Convert home prices into Market A's currency, turn them into charm prices with CEILING − 0.01, into round prices for Market C with MROUND, and measure how far the local price moves away from the home price.
  • Apply each market's fictional duty-free threshold with IF, add duty and import tax, and compare what the buyer really pays when duties are collected at the door with a duty-paid checkout price.
  • Map each market to a shipping zone, read the cost of every parcel from a two-way rate card with INDEX/MATCH, apply each market's flat charge and free-shipping threshold, and measure how much shipping Ines pays out of her margin.
  • Count orders and return rates per market with COUNTIFS, find the average value of a returned item with AVERAGEIFS and decide with IF where it is cheaper to refund without asking for the item back.
  • Turn handling and transit working days into a promised delivery date with WORKDAY, flag late parcels with IF, count the days late and measure the late share of the farthest market.
  • Compare three foreign markets on average order value and contribution per order with AVERAGEIFS and SUMIFS, combine three 1–5 scores into a weighted attractiveness score with SUMPRODUCT and rank the markets.
  • Add up the fixed monthly cost of serving each market, work out the break-even orders with ROUNDUP, the profit after fixed costs and show the result per market in a column chart.

About this course

Before you switch on a new country in your shop, you want to know whether those orders will actually make money. In this course you take a fictional accessories store abroad and calculate it step by step. You convert foreign orders into what really lands in your account after currency fees, set charm or round price points for each market and compare offers where the buyer or the seller pays import duties. You build zone rate cards, find the gap to a free-shipping threshold, cost returns from abroad and measure how many deliveries miss the promised date. Finally you score markets by order value and contribution and check break-even orders against fixed costs per market. Rates and duties are illustrative – not customs or tax advice.
