Aircraft Leasing by the Numbers: Lease Rate Factors, Maintenance Reserves, Return Conditions, Residual Values & Lessor Returns
See how lessors price and manage aircraft. You will turn values into monthly rents with lease rate factors, collect maintenance reserves per flight hour and cycle, settle return conditions, project residual values, compare a sale-and-leaseback with a new order and measure the lessor's returns, all with fictional aircraft and every cell checked as you go.
- One-time payment
- 14-day money-back guarantee
- Secure checkout with Stripe
What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Compute the lease rate factor of six leased aircraft, pool it for the portfolio, read a target factor from an age curve and turn it into the monthly rent of a new deal.
- Add up four months of utilisation reports per aircraft with SUMIFS, compute the flight-hour-to-cycle ratio and the average hours flown per month.
- Escalate the base reserve rates of a fictional lease, pick the right driver for each component, compute this month's reserve per component and the total invoice.
- Work out how much of five shop visits the reserve accounts pay, what is left in each account, where the money runs short and how much the lessor tops up under a cap.
- Measure how much life each component has used at lease end, turn the gap to half-life into compensation in both directions, label who pays and net the bill.
- Project the value of a new aircraft year by year on a straight-line and on a declining curve, read the value at lease end and measure how much of the lessor's inflows depend on that residual value.
- Lay out purchase, rent and sale as a yearly cash-flow row for two deals, compute each deal's IRR and NPV at the hurdle rate and decide which one earns more.
- Group the portfolio value by lessee, find the largest lessee's share, compute the rent-weighted remaining lease term and the value-weighted age, and chart the concentration.
About this course
Why does one aircraft lease at a higher monthly rent than another of similar value? You find out by building the lessor's numbers yourself, using a fictional fleet and invented rates. You convert aircraft values into rents with lease rate factors, model utilisation through flight hours and cycles, and collect maintenance reserves per hour, cycle and month. Then you pay shop visits out of those reserves, settle half-life compensation at return in both directions, and project residual values with depreciation curves. Lessor returns are measured with IRR and NPV, comparing a sale-and-leaseback with a direct order, before a portfolio view shows concentration, remaining term and fleet age. Aimed at aviation finance newcomers, analysts and students. Illustrative – not investment advice.
