GPU Inference Capacity Planning: Tokens per Second, Batching, Memory & Cost
Model memory for FP16/INT8/INT4, KV-cache per token, throughput vs batch size, time to first token, GPUs for the peak with Little's law, cost per 1M tokens, self-hosting vs API break-even and a six-month GPU plan: 8 graded labs on one fictional AI start-up.

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Work out how much GPU memory six model variants of Kestrel Labs' assistant need and whether they fit on one GPU-A or GPU-B.
- Calculate the KV-cache memory of Kestrel's M-34 model per token and per sequence, and how many conversations fit on one GPU-A at different context lengths.
- Turn a measured throughput curve into tokens per second per user, find the largest batch that still feels fast, and chart the curve.
- Estimate how long five kinds of Kestrel requests take: waiting, reading the prompt (prefill) and writing the answer (decode).
- Size the GPU-A fleet for five Kestrel workloads at peak: by concurrent sequences (memory) and by tokens per second (throughput), whichever binds.
- Turn GPU-hour prices, throughput and utilisation into tokens per month, a monthly bill and the cost per 1 million tokens for five Kestrel setups.
- Compare an API priced per token with a self-hosted GPU-A fleet with fixed costs, find the break-even volume and chart both cost lines.
- Build Kestrel's six-month GPU plan: peak traffic growing 15% a month, 30% headroom, a spare GPU and the budget.
About this course
Serving a language model means balancing memory, speed and money, and rough guesses get expensive. You calculate model memory from parameter count and precision, then KV-cache memory per token and the maximum number of concurrent sequences. Throughput is charted against batch size per GPU and per user, and latency is split into time to first token, time per token and total response time. Little's Law and peak demand tell you how many GPUs you need, and hourly GPU prices with utilisation give cost per million tokens. You compare self-hosting with a pay-per-token API to find the break-even volume, and build a six-month capacity plan with growth, headroom and budget. For ML engineers, platform teams and technical product managers.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
