Linear Programming by Hand: Graphical Method, Corner Points & Transportation
Formulate an LP, check plans for feasibility, draw constraint lines, solve corners with Cramer's rule, read shadow prices, build a northwest-corner shipping plan and enumerate an assignment: 8 graded labs plus Solver how-tos for a fictional brewery.

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Turn a word problem into a linear program in the sheet: decision variables, an objective formula and one formula per constraint.
- Test eight candidate production plans against every constraint with AND and pick the most profitable plan that is actually feasible.
- Compute the boundary line of each constraint and the iso-profit line, trace the feasible region and chart it as an XY scatter.
- Intersect every pair of boundary lines with Cramer's rule and keep only the intersections that are corners of the feasible region.
- Price every corner, pick the optimum with INDEX/MATCH and see how a price change moves the optimum to another corner.
- Relax each constraint by one unit, re-solve the optimal corner and read the shadow price as the change in profit.
- Build a starting shipping plan with the northwest corner rule in one copyable formula, cost it and compare it with the optimal plan.
- List every way to assign three people to three jobs, pick the fastest plan and check a tea blend against its recipe specs.
About this course
Before relying on a solver, it helps to know what it is actually doing. This course teaches linear programming by working through small problems by hand. You formulate decision variables, an objective and constraints as formulas, then check which candidate plans are feasible. The graphical method draws constraint lines and an iso-profit line, and you find corner points by solving two equations at a time. Evaluating the objective at every corner reveals the optimum, and shadow prices show what one more hour of a scarce resource is worth. Later labs introduce the transportation problem with the northwest corner rule, an assignment problem solved by enumeration and a blending check. For students in operations research, economics and management.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
