What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Turn the Lantern Walk sign-ups into a fundraiser funnel: the active rate, the average raised per page with gifts, goal attainment and the share of registrants whose page received a gift.
- Sort 20 fundraiser pages into amount bands, count and sum each band with COUNTIFS and SUMIFS, and measure how much of the money the top 10 % of pages bring.
- Read a gift log page by page: donors and money per fundraiser page, the average gift with AVERAGEIFS, and how the gifts spread over the weekdays with WEEKDAY.
- Read a giving day by the hour: HOUR of each gift batch, money per time block with SUMIFS and TIME, the gap to the cumulative target and a red flag for every block that is behind.
- Apply a fictional 2:1 match with a cap per gift and a match window, use MIN to keep the match inside the pool, and report the match used, the match left unused and the total unlocked for the cause.
- Follow an appeal email from sends to gifts: the pooled open rate, gifts per click, raised per 1,000 sends and the segment that earns the most per email.
- Charge ten online gifts under fictional fee terms: gross up the gifts whose donors cover the fee, work out the net per gift, add the fees the Trust absorbs with SUMPRODUCT and the share of the intended gifts it keeps.
- Compare four online channels on cost per new donor and cost per 1 raised, pool the year's totals, measure the share of new donors and chart new vs returning donors per channel.
About this course
Online fundraising produces plenty of data, but few teams turn it into decisions. This course does that for a fictional charity's digital programme. You follow the fundraiser funnel from registrants to active pages and average raised, group fundraisers into amount bands and measure how much the top tenth brings in. You analyse donors per page, average gift and giving by weekday, then pace a giving day hour by hour against cumulative targets with ahead and behind flags. Matching-gift labs apply ratios and caps and show the unused pool. You measure appeal emails from opens to amount raised per thousand sends, gross up gifts when donors cover fees, and end with cost per new donor. For digital fundraisers and nonprofit marketers.
