What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Build the foundation's gift range chart: the lead gift guideline, the total of all gift levels, the cumulative share of the goal level by level and the share the top three levels must bring.
- Turn the gift range chart into a prospect plan: prospects needed per level, the gap at each level, the true total gap and a highlight on the levels that are still short.
- Rate twelve prospects: look up the ask factor for each inclination score, calculate the suggested ask, round it down to a gift level of the chart and count the prospects for the first visits.
- Track the campaign report by report: share of the goal committed, share of the campaign time used, the pace index and the decision whether the campaign is ready to go public.
- Split six multi-year pledges into annual instalments, date every instalment with EDATE and add up the cash the campaign can expect in each calendar year.
- Check how well the pledges are being paid: overdue amounts, the collection rate, an allowance rate by days overdue and the cash the campaign can realistically still expect.
- Lay the expected pledge cash next to the contractor's draw schedule, build the running balance, find its lowest point and the bridge financing the foundation must arrange, and chart cash in vs draws.
- Build the board's campaign dashboard: share of the goal committed, the cost of raising each 1, gifts secured per level of the gift range chart and a thermometer chart of goal vs committed.
About this course
A capital campaign succeeds or stalls on a handful of numbers, and this course lets you work them out for a fictional building project. Starting from the goal, you design a gift range chart with a lead gift, gift levels and the cumulative share each level must deliver. Prospect-to-gift ratios reveal how many names you need and where hidden shortfalls sit. You rate prospects on capacity and inclination to set ask amounts, compare progress against time during the quiet phase, and spread pledges into annual instalments with due dates. Then you track overdue pledges and collection rates, set a write-off allowance and match pledge cash against construction draws to size any bridge financing. Useful for major-gift officers, campaign managers and nonprofit board members.
