What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Build a two-way gear table for a 50/34 chainset and an 11–28 cassette: metres travelled per crank turn and road speed at 90 rpm, then the cadence a target speed needs and the bike's gear range.
- Measure the percentage jump between neighbouring cogs, find the largest step, count the small-ring gears that duplicate the big ring's range, and flag the jumps a rider will feel.
- Turn six riders' 20-minute test results into threshold power and W/kg, convert Lena's zone table from percentages into watts, and let XLOOKUP name the zone of every effort in her session.
- Smooth a surging ride file with a 30-second rolling average, raise it to the 4th power, take the mean and the 4th root to get normalised power, and compare it with the plain average as a variability index.
- Rate twelve rides by intensity factor and training stress, give each ride its ISO week number and total the stress per week, the load figure the next lesson builds on.
- Turn 21 days of training stress into a slow fitness line (42 days) and a fast fatigue line (7 days), read the form on the last day before the event and chart all three.
- Add up the forces on a 6.5% climb, build a speed-to-power table, look up the speed Lena can hold at 230 W and turn it into a climb time.
- Set a target power for each of eight segments from a terrain table, estimate time and work per segment, total the finish time and chart the pacing plan.
About this course
Power meters and gear charts produce plenty of numbers; this course shows what to do with them. You calculate gear ratios, development and speed at a given cadence, then examine percentage jumps between cogs and overlapping gears. From threshold power you derive watts per kilo and training zones. Normalised power is built with rolling averages and the fourth-power method, giving a variability index, intensity factor and training stress per ride and per week. Exponentially weighted load tracks fitness, fatigue and form. Climbing physics combines gravity, rolling resistance and air drag to predict time on a hill, and a final lab sets target power per segment for an event. For riders, coaches and sports scientists.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
