ML Model Monitoring: Data Drift, PSI, KS Test & Performance Decay

Monitor a (fictional) credit-scoring model hands-on: bin baseline and current data, calculate the PSI, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov statistic, chi-square and Jensen–Shannon drift, track prediction drift and performance decay once labels arrive, build a traffic-light alert dashboard and decide when retraining pays, every cell checked live.

What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Bin the debt-to-income ratio of Corvel Lending's training data and of this week's applications with COUNTIFS and FREQUENCY, and turn the counts into shares you can compare.
  • Calculate the PSI of credit utilisation bin by bin, add it up and classify six features as stable, moderate shift or major shift with the usual 0.1 / 0.25 rule of thumb.
  • Build the cumulative distributions of applicant income for the baseline and the current month, find the KS statistic as the largest vertical gap, compare it with the critical value and chart both curves.
  • Test whether the mix of application channels has shifted with a chi-square goodness-of-fit test, measure the size of the shift with the Jensen–Shannon divergence and find the channel that gained most.
  • Measure how the model's predicted default probabilities shift from January to June with a prediction PSI per month, find the first month that reaches the watch level and chart the band mix.
  • Calculate precision, recall and balanced accuracy for six monthly cohorts whose default labels have arrived, and measure how far June has fallen below the validation result.
  • Turn eight monitoring metrics into Green / Amber / Red statuses with amber and red thresholds, derive one action for the on-call team and colour the dashboard with conditional formatting.
  • Put a dollar figure on the drift (excess credit losses), compare it with the one-off cost of retraining and let a payback rule decide: retrain now or keep monitoring.

About this course

Models rarely fail overnight; they drift as the data around them changes. This course teaches you to spot that drift with numbers. You bin a feature for a baseline and a current period, calculate the population stability index per feature with alert thresholds, and plot cumulative distributions to find the largest gap for a Kolmogorov–Smirnov test. Categorical features get a chi-square test and Jensen–Shannon divergence. You follow the prediction score distribution month by month, measure precision, recall and an AUC proxy once labels arrive, and build traffic-light alert rules into a monitoring dashboard. The final lab weighs the cost of drift against the cost of retraining. For ML engineers, MLOps teams and model validators.

Questions about this course

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.

What exactly do I get?

All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.

When can I start?

Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.

Do I need Excel or other software?

No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.

Is the certificate an official qualification?

No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
