What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Drop a package from a delivery drone, compute its average speed over shorter and shorter intervals and see the numbers settle on the instantaneous speed, the derivative.
  • Tabulate a cubic, estimate its derivative from the table with central differences, compute the exact slope at x₀ and draw the function together with its tangent line.
  • Model Kestrel Bikes' monthly cost and revenue, estimate marginal cost from a table, compute it exactly with the derivative and decide whether one more bike adds profit.
  • Tabulate Kestrel's profit around the peak, watch the derivative change sign, pick the best output on the grid and solve P′(q) = 0 for the exact optimum.
  • Model Kestrel's helmet demand with an exponential curve, estimate dQ/dp numerically, turn it into the point elasticity and find the price where revenue peaks.
  • Turn a Kestrel e-bike's speed curve into distance travelled with the trapezoid rule and Simpson's rule, then compare both with the exact integral.
  • Find the equilibrium of a market with a curved demand line, measure the area between the demand curve and the price line numerically and exactly, and compare it with the producer surplus.
  • Grow Kestrel's cash reserve with continuous compounding, chart it against annual compounding, read off the instantaneous growth rate with a derivative and turn a decay constant into a half-life.

About this course

Calculus becomes intuitive when you can see a derivative appear as the step size shrinks. This course takes that numerical route. You compare average and instantaneous rates of change with the difference quotient, build a derivative table and draw the tangent line. Economics labs calculate marginal cost, revenue and profit and locate the profit maximum. You find point elasticity of demand with a derivative, then integrate numerically with the trapezoid rule and Simpson's rule and compare with the exact value. Area between curves gives consumer surplus, and the final lab covers continuous growth and decay with e, including continuous compounding and half-life. For students in business, economics and science, and anyone revisiting calculus.

Questions about this course

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.

What exactly do I get?

All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.

When can I start?

Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.

Do I need Excel or other software?

No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.

Is the certificate an official qualification?

No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
