What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Turn the song's BPM into milliseconds per beat and build a delay chart for straight, dotted and triplet note values that the engineer can type straight into a delay or reverb pre-delay.
- Convert an arrangement from bars into seconds, show the song length as m:ss with TEXT, plan the bars of a radio edit in whole 8-bar phrases and find the tempo that would make the current arrangement fit a target length.
- Calculate equal-temperament frequencies from MIDI note numbers with POWER, name every note with INDEX and MOD, measure how many cents a string is out of tune with LOG and find the nearest note to a kick drum's measured pitch.
- Calculate how many megabytes a minute of audio takes in five formats, size the whole EP session, find the highest frequency each sample rate can hold and how many minutes fit on a field-recorder card.
- Convert track peaks from dBFS into linear amplitude, calculate the gain change that brings each track to the house target, and estimate the drum bus level for worst-case (correlated) and typical (unrelated) summing.
- Calculate how much two fictional streaming platforms would turn each EP master up or down, the true peak that results, and flag every master that needs attention with IFS.
- Calculate the tempo ratio that fits each sample to the 124 BPM project, its new length, how many semitones its pitch would move if it were simply sped up (varispeed), and the speed factor for a transposition.
- Cost each production stage for the whole EP, turn the total studio hours into working days, find the last production day with WORKDAY and chart the hours per song by stage.
About this course
Behind every good mix are quick calculations: delay times that sit on the beat, levels that do not clip and a master that meets its loudness target. This course practises them. You convert tempo into milliseconds per beat with straight, dotted and triplet values, and plan song structure in bars with total length. Pitch labs calculate note frequencies, cents and the nearest note. You work out file sizes from sample rate and bit depth and apply the Nyquist limit, convert between dBFS and linear amplitude when summing tracks, and set normalisation gain and true-peak headroom for loudness targets. Time-stretch labs relate tempo ratios to semitones, and a planner schedules the release. For producers, engineers and music students.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
