What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Turn a measured thrust curve into total impulse with the trapezoid rule, read the peak thrust and chart the curve.
- Calculate average thrust, look up each motor's impulse class letter and build its designation code like E13-6.
- Check five motor choices for the Kestrel: weight, thrust-to-weight ratio, liftoff acceleration and the speed at the end of the launch rail.
- Compute exhaust speed, mass ratio and ideal Δv for five vehicles, then the mass ratio a rocket needs to reach orbit.
- Track the mass of a three-stage launcher at each ignition and burnout, compute every stage's Δv and see how much staging gains over one big stage.
- Write one Euler step of the Kestrel's flight (velocity, drag, acceleration), let the table repeat it every 0.25 s up to 10 s and chart the altitude.
- Calculate how long the Kestrel coasts after burnout with and without drag, its apogee, and which motor delay fires the ejection charge at the right moment.
- Size a parachute for five rockets from a target descent speed, pick a chute from stock and check the real descent speed.
About this course
Will the rocket clear the rail fast enough, how high will it go and when should the parachute deploy? You answer each question with your own calculations. Starting from a thrust curve, you integrate total impulse with the trapezoid rule, derive average thrust and motor class, and check thrust-to-weight, liftoff acceleration and rail-exit speed. The rocket equation links delta-v, mass ratio and specific impulse, and you add stages to see how velocity accumulates. A step-by-step simulation with drag climbs to apogee, the coast phase sets the ejection delay, and a recovery lab sizes the parachute for a gentle descent. Great for hobby rocketeers, physics students and STEM teachers.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
