Engineering Calculation Sheets in Excel: Units, Interpolation in Design Tables, Iteration, Tolerance Stack-Ups & Design Checks
Build calculation sheets you can check and hand over – clear inputs and units, values read between table rows by interpolation, iteration to a converged answer, tolerances added up two ways and pass/fail design checks against fictional limits – with every cell checked as you go.

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Lay out Halvard's base-plate sheet like a checkable calculation: convert millimetres with a named constant, take off the bolt holes, work out the net mass and report it in the unit the reader asks for.
- Read a fictional strength factor at 235 °C from a table that only lists every 50 °C: find the bracketing rows with MATCH, fetch x₁, x₂, y₁ and y₂ with INDEX, interpolate, and count the temperatures that lie outside the table.
- Read the fictional property K at 230 °C and 27 bar from a table with rows every 50 °C and columns every 10 bar: find both bracket positions, interpolate along the pressure in two rows, then once more along the temperature.
- Solve a fictional implicit formula step by step: start the iteration chain, measure the change per step, find the first step that meets the tolerance and report the converged answer.
- Add up a fictional six-part stack along a shaft: the nominal gap with direction signs, the worst-case tolerance, the statistical RSS tolerance and the share each part has in the RSS result.
- Turn six fictional demand and capacity pairs into utilisation ratios, find the governing utilisation and the check it belongs to, and give each row a Pass, Review or Fail status.
- Vary the span of a fictional beam from 2 to 7 m, calculate the utilisation for each span, find the first span in the table that fails, solve the exact limit by formula and plot the curve.
- Compare Mira's key results with Tomás's independent hand checks, count the results inside the allowed deviation, build the sign-off line from an unsorted revision log and chart the deviations.
About this course
A calculation nobody can follow is a calculation nobody can sign. Here you build one that can be checked, step by step, for a fictional design office with invented materials and limits. You start with a clean layout of inputs, named constants, results and unit columns, then read values between rows of a design table and between rows and columns of a temperature-by-pressure table. Next you iterate a formula in columns until the change per step drops below a tolerance, add up a tolerance stack-up by worst case and RSS, and turn demand against capacity into utilisation ratios with pass, review or fail labels. A parametric sweep shows where a check fails, and a hand-check table plus revision log close the sheet. Suited to design engineers, technicians and engineering students.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
