What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Turn one week of a fictional pharmacy's hourly log into items per weekday, the pooled items per form, the share of the evening band and the number of busy hour bands.
- Look up a fictional fee rule for eight stock lines, work out the margin per item and per month, and find the pooled margin per item the pharmacy earns on dispensing.
- Work out the margin % of five front-shop categories, the average basket value, how many prescription customers also buy in the shop and the pooled shop margin.
- Price five fictional service types by month and by staff hour, add up the staff hours they use and find the pooled contribution per hour.
- Turn the items and baskets of each hour band into workload hours, round up to the assistants needed, flag short bands and measure items per staff hour for the day.
- Measure how many days of sales the stock covers per group, age ten slow-moving stock lines by their last sale, sort them into buckets and total the value tied up for over 90 days.
- Complete the monthly cost sheet of the fictional pharmacy, allocate a share to dispensing to get a running cost per item, and see how much of the cost is staff.
- Bring the pharmacy's numbers together: contribution per item, the items per day needed to break even after the shop and services, the October headroom and a chart of items per day.
About this course
A local pharmacy is a healthcare service and a small business at the same time. This course focuses purely on the business side, using fictional data and fee rules. You count prescription items by day, form and busy hour with SUMIFS and COUNTIFS, then calculate dispensing margins with a fixed fee per item using XLOOKUP. Front-shop sales add category margins, basket value and attach rate, while services add revenue and contribution per staff hour. You plan assistants needed per hour band, find slow movers by days of stock, and total rent, staff, systems and delivery into a cost per item. The final lab finds break-even items per day. Administrative only – illustrative, not medical or financial advice.
