IoT Sensor Data Analysis: Resampling, Thresholds, Drift & Uptime

Find gaps in timestamps, resample to hourly averages, measure threshold excursions, compute uptime and completeness, track calibration drift with SLOPE, smooth noise, build hysteresis alarms and a compliance report with MKT: 8 graded labs on a fictional cold-storage warehouse.

What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Turn the timestamps of a cold-room sensor into intervals in minutes, flag the gaps, count the missing readings and find the longest outage.
  • Put 15-minute readings into hourly buckets and compute readings per hour, hourly mean and hourly maximum, the way dashboards downsample sensor data.
  • Flag every reading outside 2–8 °C, add up the minutes out of range, measure the longest excursion with a running counter and count separate excursions.
  • Count received and valid readings for four sensors, compute data completeness and compare it with the uptime from the gateway log.
  • Compare twelve weekly spot checks with a calibrated reference probe, measure the drift per week with SLOPE and predict when the sensor leaves its tolerance.
  • Smooth 5-minute readings with a 30-minute moving average, compare how many raw values and how many averages cross the alarm limit and chart both.
  • Build a step table for a simple threshold alarm and a hysteresis alarm and count how many notifications each one would send.
  • Turn two weeks of daily sensor summaries into a compliance report: a status per day, the days OK, the time in range, the mean kinetic temperature and a chart of the daily minimum and maximum.

About this course

Raw sensor exports are messy: missing readings, noisy spikes and slowly drifting values. This course teaches you to turn them into trustworthy numbers. You check timestamps and sampling intervals to locate gaps, resample readings into hourly averages with HOUR and AVERAGEIFS and count threshold excursions, their duration and the longest one. You measure sensor uptime and data completeness, compare a sensor against a reference with SLOPE and FORECAST to quantify calibration drift and smooth noisy data with a moving average. Alert rules with hysteresis show how to avoid flapping notifications. The final lab assembles a compliance report with daily status, time in range and mean kinetic temperature. For engineers, quality staff and data analysts working with monitoring data.

Questions about this course

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.

What exactly do I get?

All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.

When can I start?

Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.

Do I need Excel or other software?

No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.

Is the certificate an official qualification?

No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
