What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Measure six delivery routes: stops per hour, parcels per stop, stops per km², and test how strongly density drives productivity.
  • Build each route's daily cost from driver time, the van's fixed cost and fuel, then turn it into cost per drop for every route and the depot.
  • Work out how many minutes a van really has for deliveries, how many stops fit into them, how many vans each zone needs and how full the fleet is.
  • Measure first-attempt failures by zone, find the true cost per delivered parcel, value a pre-alert scheme and chart where failures happen.
  • Compare a doorstep drop with a parcel-locker stop per parcel, in dollars and kilograms of CO2, including the customers who drive to collect.
  • Compare the full cost per successful drop of an employed driver in a company van with a per-drop gig courier, find the break-even per-drop rate and the annual difference.
  • Price ten orders with a distance-zone table and a free-delivery threshold, compare fees with the cost to serve and work out how much extra basket a free delivery has to buy.
  • Turn an 8-week peak forecast into vans needed, extra vans to hire and drivers to roster, and chart the forecast against the base fleet's capacity.

About this course

The final mile is usually the most expensive part of getting a parcel to a customer. This course helps logistics and e-commerce teams understand why and what to change. You measure drops per hour and stop density, then build cost per drop from driver, vehicle and fuel. Route capacity is calculated from time windows and service times, and you price the true cost of failed deliveries and redelivery. Parcel lockers are compared with doorstep delivery on cost and CO2 per parcel, and gig drivers with employed drivers on cost per drop. You design delivery zones and test free-shipping thresholds, then plan how many vans and drivers peak season requires. Built for operations, fleet and e-commerce managers.
