Maintenance & Reliability: MTBF, MTTR, Preventive Intervals & Spare Parts

Turn a failure log into MTBF, MTTR and line availability, model reliability with EXP and a Weibull fit, weigh preventive maintenance against run-to-failure, find the cheapest PM interval, size spares with POISSON.DIST, rank failure modes by RPN and keep the backlog in check – every cell checked as you go.

What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Summarise a quarter's failure log per machine with COUNTIF and SUMIF, calculate MTBF, MTTR and availability for each one and the availability of the whole line.
  • Turn an MTBF into a failure rate and expected failures per year, build the reliability curve R(t) with EXP, and see how series and redundant pumps change the odds.
  • Rank eight bearing failures, linearise the Weibull distribution with LN, read the shape β with SLOPE and the scale η from INTERCEPT, and test a PM interval.
  • Compare the cost per operating hour of running each asset to failure with a preventive plan, pick the cheaper strategy per asset and add up the saving.
  • Build a cost-per-hour table for eight overhaul intervals, find the cheapest interval with MIN and INDEX/MATCH and chart the U-shaped cost curve.
  • Turn yearly part usage into demand during the lead time, read the service level of today's stock with POISSON.DIST, find the smallest stock that meets a 95% target and cost holding it.
  • Score failure modes with a risk priority number, rank them, sort them into A/B/C classes with a nested IF, and highlight the high-severity modes that a ranking alone would hide.
  • Roll the maintenance backlog forward week by week, express it in crew-weeks, size the planning team and estimate how long contractor support needs to bring the backlog back to target.

About this course

Maintenance teams collect plenty of failure data, but few use it to set intervals or stock levels. This course shows how. You convert a failure log into MTBF, MTTR and availability per asset and model reliability over time with an exponential curve. A linearised fit estimates the Weibull shape parameter, telling you whether failures are random or wear-related. You compare preventive maintenance with run-to-failure on cost per operating hour and find the optimal preventive interval from a cost-rate table and chart. Spare parts stock is sized with Poisson demand, assets are ranked by risk priority number and the final lab balances the maintenance backlog against planner workload. For maintenance engineers, planners and reliability professionals.

Questions about this course

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.

What exactly do I get?

All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.

When can I start?

Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.

Do I need Excel or other software?

No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.

Is the certificate an official qualification?

No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
