Manufacturing Metrics: OEE, Capacity & Takt Time
Measure OEE by shift and the six big losses, balance a line to takt, find the bottleneck, read MTBF and MTTR, cost SMED, scrap and rework, and plan capacity against demand – every cell checked as you go.

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Break one day on a moulding press into availability, performance and quality for each shift, multiply them into OEE and pool the day correctly.
- Turn a week of press data into the six big losses in minutes, check that they add up to the OEE gap and chart them largest first.
- Work out the pace the customer demands, add up the work at each station, find the line's real cycle time and measure how well the line is balanced.
- Turn machines, cycle times, OEE and shift patterns into effective capacity per hour and per week, find the true bottleneck and size the extra hours it needs.
- Turn a month of breakdown timestamps into repair hours, MTTR, MTBF and the availability they imply, and find which cause costs the most hours.
- Split a mould change into internal and external work, measure how much press time SMED frees up and see how a cheaper changeover shrinks the economic batch size and its cost.
- Put a dollar figure on scrap and rework for four products, measure the first-pass yield and chain the yields of three process steps into the rolled throughput yield.
- Compare six months of demand with base capacity, decide month by month between base, overtime and a second shift, cost the plan and chart demand against capacity.
About this course
Most factories have hidden capacity; the challenge is measuring where it goes. This course gives production and continuous-improvement teams the calculations to find it. You compute OEE by shift from availability, performance and quality and break the lost minutes into the six big losses. Takt time and cycle time guide line balancing, and you identify the bottleneck and the effective daily and weekly capacity. A breakdown log yields MTBF, MTTR and availability. SMED analysis shows how shorter changeovers change the economic batch size, and scrap and rework are costed alongside first-pass and rolled throughput yield. The final lab compares a capacity plan with the demand forecast to decide between overtime and a second shift. Includes graded labs.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
