What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Add a success rate to every session of Juniper's log, then count sessions, total reps and work out the pooled success rate for each behaviour with COUNTIFS and SUMIFS.
  • Pool the last two sessions of each behaviour, let IFS decide whether to raise, keep or lower the criterion, count the behaviours that are ready for the next step and name the one that needs the most help.
  • Build a step plan that raises the Stay duration by a fixed percentage, use LOG to find the number of steps to the target, turn steps into training days and compare it with a distance plan that grows in equal steps.
  • Turn a thinning plan into expected correct reps, rewards per session and rewards per week, total the rewards over six weeks and measure how far the rewards per session fall.
  • Turn the plan of short daily sessions into minutes per week, give every practice day its ISO week number, add the actual minutes per week and compare them with the plan.
  • Turn trial and success counts into a reliability grid by place and distraction level, find the weakest place under high distraction, pool the overall reliability and count the contexts that meet Tomás's target.
  • Smooth Juniper's walk observations with a 3-walk rolling average, measure the trend with SLOPE, compare the last three walks with the first three and draw the progress as a line chart.
  • Summarise eight weeks of training: behaviours per stage, home practice hours per week, what each learned behaviour cost in class fees, and a highlight for the behaviours still in the learning stage.

About this course

Knowing when to make an exercise harder is one of the trickiest parts of dog training, and a simple log makes the decision objective. In this course you record training sessions for a fictional dog and compute success rates per behaviour. A two-session rule tells you when to raise or lower the criteria, and percentage steps plan how duration or distance grows toward a target. You compare continuous and variable reward schedules and plan how to thin treats, track planned against actual practice minutes by week, and test recall reliability across places and distractions to find the weakest context. A calm-walk log uses rolling averages and a trend line, and a dashboard shows stages, weekly hours and cost per learned behaviour. For dog owners, trainers and shelter volunteers.
