PMP Exam Math: Earned Value, PERT, Critical Path & Formulas
Practice for the formula questions: earned value and EAC variants, the S-curve, PERT three-point estimates with probabilities, forward and backward pass with float, crashing, communication channels, incentive contracts and EMV decision trees, with every cell checked as you go. Independent practice, not affiliated with PMI; PMP and PMI are registered marks of the Project Management Institute, Inc.

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Turn percent complete into earned value for six work packages, then calculate the schedule variance and the cost and schedule indices the way the exam asks for them.
- Calculate the four estimate-at-completion formulas the exam uses, the variance at completion and the to-complete performance index, and learn which formula fits which story.
- Turn monthly values into cumulative curves, track CPI and SPI to date month by month and draw the classic EVM S-curve chart.
- Estimate six activities with the beta (PERT) and triangular formulas, find each one's standard deviation, combine them along the path and use NORM.DIST for the probability of meeting a deadline.
- Finish the forward pass where two paths merge, the backward pass where one activity feeds two, and calculate total and free float the way exam network questions ask.
- Calculate how many days each activity can be crashed and what one day costs, then pick the cheapest critical activity with MINIFS and INDEX/MATCH.
- Count communication channels before and after a team grows, then price an incentive contract with a share ratio and a ceiling, and find the point of total assumption.
- Quantify six risks with expected monetary value, size the contingency reserve from the net EMV and roll back a two-option decision tree to pick the better choice.
About this course
Project management certification exams include a predictable set of formula questions, and practising them under realistic conditions saves valuable minutes. This course covers each type. You calculate planned value, earned value and actual cost with their variances and indices, then forecast EAC, ETC, VAC and TCPI and plot an S-curve. Three-point estimates use beta and triangular distributions with standard deviation and probability. You perform forward and backward passes to find the critical path and total and free float, then crash a schedule at the lowest cost slope. Further labs count communication channels, work through cost-plus and fixed-price incentive contracts with the point of total assumption and apply EMV and decision trees. Independent practice material.
