What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Scale two store features to 0–1, build the full 12 × 12 Euclidean distance matrix and see how unscaled data lets one feature decide everything.
  • Run hierarchical clustering by hand on six pilot stores: find the closest pair, merge it, update the distances, and see how single and complete linkage build different trees.
  • Cut Tallow's average-linkage tree at a height, count the clusters, find the natural cut in the largest gap and turn the cut into cluster labels.
  • Compute the silhouette of every store for Tallow's three clusters, spot the store that fits worst and calculate the average silhouette.
  • Compare two ways of picking the number of clusters for Tallow's 48-store network: the elbow in WCSS and the best average silhouette.
  • Price Tallow's current three medoid stores, test swapping the outlier medoid S12 for S10 and decide with the PAM rule.
  • Run DBSCAN's labelling step on Tallow's 12 stores with COUNTIF and COUNTIFS on the distance matrix and find the store that belongs to no cluster.
  • Turn Tallow's final segments into a profile table (size, averages, revenue share) and a scatter chart with one colour per segment.

About this course

Clustering libraries hide the decisions that shape the result. This course makes every step visible by working it through on a small store dataset. You build Euclidean and Manhattan distance matrices and see why scaling comes first. Agglomerative clustering is carried out step by step with single and complete linkage, and you read a dendrogram by merge heights to choose clusters. You compute the silhouette score per point and on average, compare the elbow rule with silhouette for choosing k, and run k-medoids with its total cost and a swap step. DBSCAN labels core, border and noise points, and a final lab profiles clusters on a scatter chart. For data science students and analysts.

Questions about this course

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.

What exactly do I get?

All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.

When can I start?

Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.

Do I need Excel or other software?

No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.

Is the certificate an official qualification?

No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
