Bayesian Statistics in Excel: Priors, Posteriors & Bayesian A/B Tests
Bayes' theorem, step-by-step updating, grid posteriors, Beta-Binomial, prior sensitivity, P(B > A) and expected loss: 8 hands-on labs with an online plant shop.
- One-time payment
- 14-day money-back guarantee

What you'll build
What you will be able to do
Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.
- Work out what a positive root-rot test really means for Juniper Lane's incoming plant batches: P(positive), P(rot | positive), P(healthy | negative) and the false alarms per year.
- Update the rot probability of one suspicious batch through three pieces of evidence, first step by step and then in one go with odds and likelihood ratios.
- Turn a team guess about the add-on purchase rate into a posterior on a grid of 10 rates, using BINOM.DIST as the likelihood, and read the posterior mean, mode and P(p ≥ 20%).
- Update a Beta prior for the 90-day reorder rate with launch data, and compute the posterior mean, standard deviation and a 95% credible interval.
- Update a flat and a strong prior with the same 40 visitors, compare the posterior means and P(p > 20%), and chart both posterior curves.
- Turn the checkout test (A: 120 of 2,500, B: 150 of 2,500) into two Beta posteriors and estimate P(B > A), once with the normal approximation and once by counting 30 posterior draws.
- Compute the expected loss of shipping B and of keeping A from the 30 posterior draws, the expected lift, and let an IF formula make the call against a threshold.
- Compute a frequentist confidence interval and one-sided p-value for the checkout test next to the Bayesian P(B > A), and pick the interval that may be read as "95% probability".
About this course
Bayesian thinking answers the question people actually ask: given the data, how likely is my hypothesis? This course builds that intuition through calculation. You begin with a diagnostic test and see why the base rate matters so much, then update a belief step by step as new evidence arrives. Grid approximation shows the mechanics of prior times likelihood divided by the total, and the beta-binomial model gives a fast conjugate update with a credible interval. You compare weak and strong priors, run a Bayesian A/B test that estimates the probability that B beats A, and use expected loss as a rule for shipping. A final lab contrasts Bayesian and frequentist answers on the same data. For analysts, students and product teams.

Questions about this course
Is this a subscription?
No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.
What exactly do I get?
All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.
When can I start?
Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.
Do I need Excel or other software?
No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
