What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Price six products for a wholesale line sheet from a target margin, round the prices the way shops expect and check that both you and the shop keep a healthy margin.
  • Compare the contribution per apron in the web shop, on a marketplace and in wholesale, then weight the channels by volume to get the blended margin of the month.
  • Round a shop's requested quantities up to whole case packs, price the order lines, total the order and work out how much is missing to reach the opening-order minimum.
  • Set the due dates of six wholesale invoices, measure how late they were paid, price an early-payment discount as a yearly rate and find the amount-weighted days to pay.
  • Subtract chargebacks, damages and returns allowances from five accounts' invoices, find the net price per unit, the overall deduction rate and flag the accounts below your price floor.
  • Compare a wholesale deal with consignment at four sell-through rates, value the aprons that come back and find the sell-through at which both deals pay the same.
  • Measure the sell-through of ten stockists, the share that reorders, the shops gone quiet since a cut-off date and the second-strongest account.
  • Add up the units ordered at a trade fair per ship window, compare them with the sewing capacity, find the shortfall and the share that ships on time, and chart orders against capacity.

About this course

Getting your product into shops can grow sales quickly, or eat your margin if prices and terms are wrong. This course works through the numbers for a fictional maker brand. You build a line sheet with wholesale and suggested retail prices, compare contribution per unit across wholesale and direct sales, and find the blended margin. You define case packs and opening-order minimums, calculate due dates, early-payment discounts and days to pay, and subtract deductions and chargebacks to see the price you really receive. Scenario labs weigh consignment against wholesale at different sell-through rates. You then rank retailers by sell-through and reorder rate and check trade-fair orders against production capacity and ship windows. For small brands, makers and wholesale managers.
