What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Calculate the series resistor for six LEDs, pick the next standard E12 value, check the current you really get and the power the resistor has to dissipate.
  • Calculate the top resistor that scales four higher voltages into the range of a 3.3 V analog input, then check the output, the current the divider draws and how much of the input range each signal uses.
  • Work out the steps and volts per step of a 12-bit ADC, convert raw counts back into the battery voltage behind the divider and scale a tank sensor's counts into centimetres.
  • Turn six ADC readings into thermistor resistance and temperature with the Beta equation, find the day's maximum and see how fine one ADC count is in °C.
  • Calculate an RC filter's time constant, the capacitor's charge curve, the time until a button input reads HIGH and the frequency of a blinking timer.
  • Turn a PWM value into duty cycle and average voltage, build a gamma-corrected brightness table for an LED and map a servo angle to pulse width and duty cycle.
  • Weigh every component's active and sleep current by the time in each mode, estimate the heat in a linear regulator and work out how many days the battery lasts.
  • Turn a bill of materials into order quantities with spares, look up the unit price from each part's price breaks, and calculate the cost of the run and per board.

About this course

Every microcontroller project eventually needs some arithmetic. This course works through it with you. You choose an LED series resistor from standard E12 values and check its power rating, pick a resistor pair to scale a sensor voltage for an analog input, and convert ADC counts to volts and readings. A thermistor curve turns a raw count into a temperature with the beta equation. RC time constants explain charging curves, button debounce and timer frequencies, and PWM labs cover duty cycle, average voltage, gamma-corrected brightness and servo pulses. You then estimate average current, regulator heat and battery runtime, and finish with a bill of materials using price breaks to get cost per unit. For hobbyists, makers, students and robotics clubs.

Questions about this course

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay $9.99 once for this course. There is no subscription and nothing renews automatically. Prices are in US dollars; taxes may be added where required.

What exactly do I get?

All lessons and labs of this course, the final exam and the certificate, including later updates to the course, for as long as Tutorvo offers it. Access is personal and tied to your account.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you are not satisfied, email hello@tutorvo.com within 14 days of buying and we refund the course in full via Stripe. The guarantee does not apply once a certificate for the course has been issued to you, or where there are signs of abuse.

When can I start?

Right after payment. Access starts immediately at your request; for consumers in the EU/EEA the statutory right of withdrawal therefore ends once access has begun, while our 14-day money-back guarantee applies regardless.

Do I need Excel or other software?

No. The labs run in a spreadsheet inside your browser on a laptop, tablet or phone. Function names and syntax follow Excel.

Is the certificate an official qualification?

No. It confirms that you completed all lessons of the course and passed its final exam. It is not an official, state-recognised or professional qualification. The name is taken from your profile when the certificate is issued.
