What you'll build

What you will be able to do

Each lab ends with a concrete result that you build yourself and the checker confirms, cell by cell.

  • Turn the venue manifest of a fictional amphitheater show into sellable seats per section, measure how much capacity leaks away and add back the holds that are released.
  • Put a face price on every section, calculate the gross potential of the show, the weighted average ticket price and find the section that carries the most money.
  • Build the cumulative sales curve after ten weeks on sale, compare it with the target curve, chart both and work out how many tickets per day the show still needs.
  • Split the lawn tickets sold so far into four price tiers that open one after another, calculate the revenue and the average price paid and let a formula tell you which tier is on sale now.
  • Move each section's price with its demand index, keep every change inside a guardrail of +20 % / −10 % and flag the sections where the guardrail kicked in.
  • Build the all-in price a fan pays from face value, service fee and facility fee, show how heavy the fees are on cheap tickets and calculate what the promoter really keeps per ticket.
  • Turn tickets issued into heads through the gate, calculate food & beverage revenue per section, the show-up rate and the promoter's share of the bar.
  • Settle the show for six attendance scenarios under a guarantee-versus-percentage deal, find the promoter's break-even ticket count and chart the promoter's profit.

About this course

Promoters and box office teams make pricing decisions long before doors open. You start with a venue manifest, removing kills, holds and comps to reach sellable seats by section, then scale the house with price levels to calculate gross potential. Cumulative sales are tracked against a target to find tickets per day still needed, and a lookup shows which early-bird or standard tier is on sale today. A demand index moves prices within set limits for dynamic pricing. You split service, facility and payment fees to find net revenue to the promoter, estimate no-shows, scanned attendance and food and drink spend per head, and settle the show under a guarantee or a percentage deal. For promoters, venue staff, box office and music business students.
